ABOUT

Rasika is an internationally acclaimed flautist, vocalist, composer and producer. She plays the Indian bamboo flute, known as the Pullankuzhal/Bansuri. Rasika was trained in Carnatic and Hindustani classical music since a young age by gurus Smt. Growri Ramakrishnan, Dr. Bhavani Prakash, Shri Shashank Subramaniam and Pandit Shrikanth Waikar. Her broad musical pursuits led her to a scholarship at the Berklee College of Music in Spain, where she studied under Latin jazz saxophonist, Perico Sambeat.
 Her distinctive sound as a vocalist and flautist has led her to collaborate and work with some of the biggest names including John McLaughlin, Shankar Mahadevan, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Ustad Ghulam Ali Khan,  AR Rahman, Amit Trivedi, Vijay Iyer and many more. As a composer, Rasika won the Indian Independent Music Award for best instrumental song in 2022 for her composition ‘Departure’. She was part of a GRAMMY award-winning album named ‘Divine Tides’ and featured on the album both as a vocalist and flautist. Rasika has lent her voice and playing to many songs in prominent Bollywood films and scores and recently played across the scores of Ms. Marvel. Viral videos of her performances on social media, TedX talks, appearances on highly acclaimed television shows and an experience of over a thousand live concerts across the globe are only a testament to Rasika’s sensational talent. Born in Dubai, raised in the United States, a chemical engineer by degree and currently shuttling between New York and Mumbai, Rasika’s global footprint is evident in her sound. She effortlessly fuses her strongly rooted Indian sensibilities with global genres to create a soundscape so unique, that it shines like a crepuscular ray in today’s contemporary music scene. A listener with one ear in New York City and the other in India equally enjoys the intonations of Jazz and blues phrases layered with the playful styles of the Sufi, the ancient colors of Indian classical music, and the pure-heartedness of a Ghazal, all wrapped up into a single package.
